Somers Students Present an Evening of Music

SOMERS, N.Y. – A handful of Somers High School’s most accomplished young musicians gathered on Wednesday in the school’s library to present an evening of voice solos and chamber music.

In the first of what is planned to become an annual event, the library was filled to capacity with parents, friends and music lovers as the students performed pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Purcell, and Gilbert & Sullivan, among other composers.

A highlight of the event was a string quartet in G minor, composed by Somers student David Lee

“These are the kids who go the extra mile,” said music teacher Anne Harris. “They rehearse during their free time and some even drive into the city for lessons. This is a wonderful chance to spotlight their extra work. Such a nice evening.”

There was no admission fee, but the audience was asked to make donations to a music scholarship fund. The students will decide just how the money will be used.
