The crisis intervention team has previously been trained in therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) by trainers from The Residential Child Care Project, an international outreach, technical assistance, and training organization established in 1982 as part of the Family Life Development Center in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

The initial five-day training focused on skill development in the areas of early interventions strategies, crisis co-regulation, Life Space Interview, physical skills and risk assessment. After the training, Westchester Exceptional Children’s Crisis Intervention Team was then able to train the school’s entire staff in how to utilize TCI techniques.

The TD Bank Charitable Foundation award enables the crisis intervention team to complete a two-day refresher training in July 2014, so they can update their skills.

“TD Bank’s generous grant will help the Crisis Intervention Team redesign TCI activities for refresher training and deliver these activities to the entire school staff. It is of utmost importance for the staff to learn the best ways to proactively prevent and manage crises that may occur in a sensitive and effective manner,” says Linda Zinn, Westchester Exceptional Children's executive director. “We are so happy to partner with TD Bank, which has recognized the value of this imperative training.”
