SOMERS, N.Y. – As 2012 draws to a close, The Somers Daily Voice is recapping some of the biggest stories of the past year.

Between New York state’s 2 percent tax levy cap, the fall in real estate values, the town’s reluctance to raise taxes and everyone’s desire for the best school system possible, the 2012-13 school budget spent several months under scrutiny before it was finally approved in April by the Board of Education and in May by the voters.

In a related story, incumbent Sarena Meyer was re-elected to the Somers Board of Education, and Michael D’Anna defeated Richard Wagner for the other available seat. Meyer was subsequently elected board president for the 2012-13 school year.
