After a sluggish start, Danbury-based Wooster pulled away with a 22-4 run to go up 29-11 at halftime.

Wooster’s pressure defense prevented Poughkeepsie Day School from getting to within striking distance.

“Back-to-back New England tournament titles is truly something special,” said coach Dave MacNutt. “As I told the players before the game, if they win, they will walk together forever. Congratulations to a great group of young women who have worked hard to elevate their game both individually and collectively this season. A job well done and a season worth remembering.”

Wooster finished the season 17-1. Its only loss was a 35-34 setback to Chase Collegiate in January. Wooster went 24-1 last year, for a two-year combined mark of 41-2.

Tournament MVP Venus Okwuka led the team with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals. Blair Hamilton tallied six points. Becca Kohn of Danbury scored 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Morgan McCutcheon of Danbury added nine points, and Brittany Reid netted four points.

Wooster's roster includes seniors Melanie Hodor of Katonah, Taylor Milana of Danbury, Shauna Vines of Bethel, and Blair Hamilton of Newtown; sophomores Sueann Barsh of Somers, Ava Cohn of Bedford Corners, Sarah Fried of Redding, Rebecca Kohn of Danbury and Venus Okwuka of Brookfield; and freshmen Caylynn Maldonado of Ridgefield, Morgan McCutcheon of Danbury and Brittany Reid of New Milford. David MacNutt is the team's coach.

MacNutt has coached the Generals for 22 years. He is also the girls lacrosse coach and a physical education teacher at the private school in Danbury.
