Five Lakeland Softball Standouts Will Take Their Talents To College

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- Five Lakeland High School softball players announced last week that they will continue their careers in college.

Olivia Knopf will attend Marist, Colleen Walsh will head to Sacred Heart in Connecticut, Amber Badillo will go to University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Cameron Lischinsky will go to LIU Post and Krista Verrino will attend Ramapo.

The girls all had big years at Lakeland, leading the Hornets to a 22-2 record before falling to Pearl River, 2-1, in the Section 1 Class A championship game.

Walsh hit .438 in 24 games last year, and went 18-2 on the mound with a 1.38 ERA. Badillo hit a team-high 11 home runs, hit .514 and had 37 RBIs. Knopf added four home runs, hit .333, and had 19 RBIs. Verrino hit .412 with four home runs and 19 RBIs, while Lischinsky hit .507 with six homers and 23 RBIs.
