SOMERS, N.Y. -- For Tony DeMatteo and the Somers High football team, which won the program's first state title Thanksgiving weekend, this fall was the Perfect Storm.

As any coach will tell you, it takes a lot of circumstances coming together in a perfect way to get to the Carrier Dome, and to bring home a state title, as the legendary Westchester coach - who will enter his 48th season next fall - has now done twice.

At Saturday's state championship parade and ceremony , former Somers student and coach Tim Fulton (whose 2004 cross country team was one of those honored) referred to DeMatteo as "perhaps the greatest high school coach in America," an opinion shared by many.
