The Somers squad won the Brewster Super League A Division title on June 22 at the Brewster Sports Center, 19 Sutton Pl., Brewster, N.Y. The boys clamped down on defense in the championship game to beat Venom, a team that had beaten them by 20 points in the regular season finale.

Venom jumped out to an early lead, but Somers was able to settle down, dominate the boards and play stellar defense -- which translated into opportunities on offense.

Somers, who finished third in the regular season, knocked of Next Level, a team that beat them twice during the regular season and finished second in the division. The boys then used clutch free throw shooting to win its semifinal matchup by three points to advance to face the Venom in the title game.

Members of the title-winning team coached by Mike Ferraro and Kevin Marcus include Nick Ferraro, Ryan Grant, Max Hechler, Nicky Iocovello, Bennett Leitner, Derek Marcus, T.J. Olifiers and Jake Riina.
