After a long title drought, Somers won a sectional title last week, and after another big win Wednesday the Tuskers are one win from reaching the state final four.

Somers played with a sense of urgency Wednesday in their regional opener at Lakeland High School, building a 3-0 lead over Vestal High School, and holding on to earn a spot in the next round.

The Section 1 champion Tuskers are scheduled to play in Friday's regional final at Middletown High School, taking on Section 9's Goshen at noon.

"It's been an amazing ride for our team, for our program," Somers captain Evan Kieltyka told Daily Voice. "Somers hasn't made it to the section finals for over 20 years I believe, so for us to get this far is just an incredible feeling.

"We're a positive group, we all love each other, and we've played well together," Kieltyka added. "It's just been a great season."

"I've been emphasizing the fact that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Lanzetta said. "Especially for the seniors. And the younger guys... we don't know if we're gonna get here (again) - so just go out hard. And we really came out in the first half and played well technically, and we finished.

"At this point we're taking it all in, enjoying the moment," Lanzetta added. "There's a lot of talent here at Somers, and if these boys believe they can do it, they can accomplish anything,. So we're ready to go for the regional final."

How much fun are the Tuskers having?

"This is the coolest time I think these boys have ever had," Lanzetta said. "They're going to remember this for the rest of their lives. This is my first year with the team, and I can't begin to explain how much fun I'm having. So these boys are taking it all in, having fun. They're like a family. And we're just going to keep on fighting until someone takes us down."

In Wednesday's win, Somers got goals from Kieltyka, Jon Riina and Ronan Brady.
