The team's first game, March 23, will be played at the 13,000-seat capacity Halton Stadium, midway between Liverpool and Manchester and will be broadcast by ESPN.

“I am thrilled to be playing for a club with such a unique culture and history and being surrounded by this standard of excellence. Liverpool Football Club is one of the oldest clubs in history, and the chance to be in a country where the game is loved so much is a really amazing opportunity,” DaCosta said.

Now 23, DaCosta began her soccer career at an early age, playing for the Somers Strikers. The practice field was just down the street from her home, and her father was the coach.

At 14, she began to play for the Monroe United Magic while she played varsity soccer for Somers High School. She earned quadruple All-Section and All-League honors, was named Most Valuable Player twice, received the Con Edison Award and was named Player of the Year by both the North County News and The Journal News. She led the Somers Tuskers to league championships four times.

As an athletic scholarship student at Florida State University, DaCosta was named every year to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference, setting a record for her alma mater.

Matt Beard, head coach of DaCosta’s new team, considers her enlistment “a great signing for us. She’s an energetic attacking central mid-fielder,” he said, “and she’ll be a great asset to the Liverpool Ladies. She has great feet.”
