Somers Soccer Team Defends Title At Fishkill Tournament

SOMERS, N.Y. -- The U9 FC Somers Fire soccer team successfully defended its title at the East Fishkill Memorial Day Soccer Tournament on Saturday. 

The U9 FC Somers Fire: Kevin Lewitt, Matthew Kapica, Daniel D'Ippolito, Nicholas Ferraro, Derek Marcus, Jack Silverman, Owen Henderson, Max Hechler, Aedan Hopper, Brendan Muldoon, Jesse Heller, Jaden Rothschild, Aiden Matteo and Michael Micceri.

The 35th Annual Memorial Day Tournament was held in East Fishkill. The team had to beat Warwick Team Primo, East Fishkill Attack and Beacon SC Bullets. The win for the Somers team gives them two championships in two years. 

Coach Mike Ferraro praised his team for their hard work over the holiday weekend. 

"The boys worked hard and played as a team under extreme conditions," Ferraro said. Their success is due to their ability to play as a team. Their energy and work rate is second to none and if they are down by a goal they kick it into another gear to try to pull out a win."

The FC Somers Fire starting playing together in the spring 2012 and has competed in six tournaments winning four of them and took 2nd place in the others, Ferraro said. 

"The FC Somers Soccer Club, trainers and parents are proud of the accomplishments these boys have achieved and their future as soccer players," Ferraro said.
