CROTON, N.Y. -- The Somers-Croton high school baseball game brought together two brothers on opposite sides last Thursday as Croton assistant coach Jay Tomasulo faced younger brother Joe in Somers' 4-3 victory.
Joe, who will play his college ball at Lynchburg College in Virginia next fall, had two hits and drove in a run to help the Tuckers earn the victory.
"Coach Jay explained to our guys that he is always rooting for his brother to do well, except against us," Croton head coach Eric Rosen said. "Unfortunately, Joe did some damage against us going 2for-3 with and RBI. Competing against these solid Section 1 opponents will help us later on such as Sectionals. Somers was the runner-up in Class A last year and has won the Class A title three out of the last five years."
Croton pitcher Christian Doughty took the lost against Somers, but pitched five strong innings against a solid Tuckers lineup.
"We scheduled this (Somers) game along with a bunch of other games (Byram Hills, Valhalla, Carmel) to challenge ourselves," said Rosen, who is in his first year as Croton's head coach with the team at 3-5 so far. "Mike Hrycko and Deniis Traditi have been swinging the bat well for us and Brandon Glover, Christian Doughty, Hrycko and Traditi have been pitching well and our defense has been solid."
