Stormy Weather Pattern Could Bring Heavy Snow To Somers

Hudson Valley residents who enjoyed the mildest January in more than 10 years could soon be seeing a heavy dose of winter weather -- and some significant snowstorms -- in February.

A stormy weather pattern next week starts with the chance of snow on Super Bowl Sunday, according to AccuWeather.com.

The longterm forecast comes just as Punxsutawney Phil saw his own shadow during the annual Groundhog Day ritual on Thursday, meaning, according to tradition at least, we're in for six more weeks of cold weather and snow.

Snowfall in the area this month could stem from storm systems moving through the south and picking up steam from colder air in the Northeast, AccuWeather.com meteorologist Tom Kines told the New York Post.

The next chance of snow will be this Super Bowl Sunday, with snow possible after 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. That's just a couple of hours before the opening coin toss of the game between New England and Atlanta in Houston. It's too early to predict possible snowfall accumulations.

After a mostly sunny day Monday, snow could fall again next Tuesday and Wednesday with storms expected to affect the Atlantic Coast, according to AccuWeather.com.

The storms are likely to bring major disruptions to travel and daily activities, AccuWeather said.

The longterm forecast by AccuWeather.com calls for another chance for snow on Saturday, Feb. 11.
