Stomp To The Beat At Somers Library Percussion Workshop

SOMERS, N.Y. – The Somers Library is hosting a teen percussion workshop Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 5-6 p.m. for kids in fifth grades and up.

Musician Jay Mankita will show attendees his skills on the various instruments he plays, including the guitar, keyboard and recycled foot percussion. After a brief presentation, participants will build percussion instruments to play with their feet to explore basic rhythms.

Participants should bring the following: pots, pans, scrap wood and metal, broken musical gear, rubber bands, Velcro, springs, spoons, marbles, tubes and other things that ring, chime, bang, thwack, swish, bump and boom. Do not bring items that have splinters, rusty metal, sharp edges, heavy metal coatings, toxic chemicals or other potentially dangerous items.
