Many local residents like that receive help from the Lewisboro Meals On Wheels program whose volunteers see to it they have one meal a day.

Deliveries are made on weekdays at lunchtime by a small army of volunteers though more are needed.

"We definitely need volunteers," maintained Mark Nathan, a coordinator.

"We're an all-volunteer group. We deliver one meal, lunch, every weekday throughout the year except weekends, national holidays, and snow days. The time commitment is roughly three hours, from 10:30 to 1:30," he told Daily Voice.

Food gets prepared by the Nutritional Program staff at the Van Tassel House in Somers then picked up by the volunteers at 11 a.m.

The delivery commitment is once a month.

Suggested routing, helpful hints on deliveries, and training in the form of a "ride-along," is provided.
