Kennedy High Mourns Loss of Teacher, Mentor

Kennedy Catholic High School mourned the loss of a great teacher and mentor after Sister Mary Christopher O’Toole passed away.

O’Toole passed away on Saturday at Good Counsel Convent in White Plains. She was 88. She was born in New York on February 25, 1923 to Michael and Emily O’Toole.

She was a math teacher, academic dean and principal at Kennedy Catholic School in Somers, following several positions as principals and math teachers as schools, such as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Preston High School and St. Mary’s High School. She obtained degrees in mathematics from Good Counsel College and continued at the Catholic University in Washington.

Past students remembered their teacher and mentor with comments on the Kennedy school’s facebook page.

“I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Sr. Christopher. She was most definitely an icon at Kennedy who will long be remembered by the many students whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace,” wrote Nancy Wyant.

Students also remembered O’Toole for educating them in math, and other subjects.

“She taught me so much -- and it wasn't just math. I am so happy I reconnected with her in recent years,” wrote Kathy Mackey.

She is survived by her brother Walter, her nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion. Internment will take place at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY 10603.
