Professor Pleads Not Guilty In Sex Case, Says Didn't Know Somers Boy's Age

DANBURY, Conn. -- Western Connecticut State University chemistry professor Paul Hines, charged in a sex case involving a 15-year-old boy in Somers, N.Y., pleaded not guilty to endangering the welfare of a minor Monday and said he did not know the boy's true age, according to a story at the NewsTimes.com.

Hines, a 73-year-old Danbury resident, entered the plea Monday night at Somers Town Justice Court, the report said.

"He is not a pedophile," White Plains attorney Andrew Proto told reporters, the report said.

Hines also faces a felony count of third-degree criminal sex act. He was released on $50,000 bond and is due back in court Dec. 2.

He is one of the founders of the Dorothy Day Hospitality House, which provides food and shelter for the homeless in Danbury, and also helps schedule volunteers for the shelter. He is an organic chemistry professor at WestConn.
