Sunday will bring the unveiling of “A Lionel Christmas,” a display of five decades of Lionel trains, gleaned from the collection of Joe Schiavone, author of “The Old Put Guy.”
The exhibition is set up on the third floor of the Elephant Hotel in the rooms of the Somers Historical Society and runs from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Schiavone will be on hand to autograph books, along with Jo Pitkin, author of “Cradle of the American Circus: Poems From Somers, New York.” Open house at the Historical Society continues until 4:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Santa Claus will be on the first floor of the Elephant Hotel from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Beard combed and suit brushed of last year’s soot, he’ll be ready to be photographed with any eager child who gets in line no later than 4 p.m.
Also on the first floor, waiting to be admired but not sampled, you can see Dawn White’s 10th annual Gingerbread House, on display from 3 to 5 p.m. Somers resident White is baker/owner of Meme’s Treats in Somers.
Outside on the front lawn, hot chocolate will be served from 4 to 4:30 p.m., accompanied by holiday music from Rich and Harry Egor and followed by a sing-along with the Somers Girl Scouts from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
As dusk settles over Somers at 5 p.m., the annual lighting of the tree will take place on the front lawn.
Saturday, Dec. 8, will bring the second annual lighting of the Somers town menorah at the same spot at 6 p.m. Latkes, jelly donuts and chocolate coins will be served in celebration of Hanukkah 2012.
