SOMERS, N. Y. -- A 66-year-old woman was injured when the SUV she was driving struck and brought down a utility pole Tuesday afternoon, closing part of Route 139 in Somers for at least seven hours and knocking out power temporarily to at least 1,000 homes, according to lohud.com.
Firefighters had to free the woman who was trapped in her SUV after the 3 p.m. accident on Route 139 near the Angle Fly Preserve. Live wires fell on her car, making the situation dangerous until power was shut off, lohud.com reported.
She was taken with minor injuries to Westchester Medical Center, and crews worked for hours to replace the pole and wires. Route 139 between Plumbrook and Van Renssalaer roads was closed until about 10:40 p.m., lohud.com said.
