PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- A Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy has arrested a 22-year-old Westchester County man on a DWI charge.
The arrest came as the result of a deputy stopping a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Peekskill Hollow Road in the Town of Putnam Valley on Monday, March 14, at 1:41 a.m., police report.
The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Austin F. Knoeppel of Cortlandt Manor, was intoxicated, according to officials.
The deputy arrested Knoeppel and charged him with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests, police report.
The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment, officials report.
If found guilty of the charge, Knoeppel could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
