Morrissey had many people to thank, including current Town Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy, who lost her race for Westchester County Clerk to incumbent Tim Idoni.
“I’d like to thank my family and friends, including my running mates and Mary Beth Murphy, who have been so supportive throughout the campaign,” Morrissey said.
“I am sincerely grateful to the people of Somers for electing me as their next supervisor. It is truly an honor. I look forward to representing all Somers residents as I work tirelessly on their behalf to keep Somers a wonderful place to live,” he added.
Morrissey, a Republican, is a 34-year resident of Somers and has more than 40 years of government experience. He is currently a Somers town councilman and the deputy commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Health. He lives with his wife, Linda, and his son, Eric, was educated in the Somers school district and played varsity sports.
He said his biggest priority is to keep “money in the pockets of Somers residents by holding taxes at the lowest possible level while maintaining essential services, especially for seniors.”
He added that the economy of Somers, and the county, is what he would like to see change the most in his first term.
“There are far too many vacant retail spaces, which is indicative of a slow economy,” he said.
“I will work with the Chamber of Commerce to address this issue and seek ways to entice business entrepreneurs into the Somers business community. Although the economy and the town’s financial standing are improving, we’re not out of the woods yet,” he added.
As for where residents can find Morrissey when he’s not working, they won’t have to look far. And it’s safe to say he’s excited for this weekend’s championship football matchup of Somers (8-1) and Rye (9-0) at Mahopac High School on Saturday at 7 p.m.
“I’m a huge Somers Tusker football fan,” he said. “After games, I usually meet up with coaches, players and friends at one of our local restaurants to discuss the game. By the way, Somers has some great places to eat including the Burger Barn, Somers Tavern, Somersfields, La Fontaine, Mamma Rosa’s, Maria’s Diner and Il forno.”
