SOMERS, N.Y. – As the new year begins, The Somers Daily Voice asked Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy and newly elected Councilman Anthony Cirieco about their wishes and resolutions for 2013.

Murphy replied: “As Somers moves forward into 2013, we will be focused on enhancing the quality of life for Somers residents by ensuring that Somers remains the warm, welcoming and wonderful town that it is.

“Several improvements to Reis Park are under way and we will work to keep the projects on schedule so that when Reis Park opens in the spring it will provide an enhanced recreational opportunity for all residents.

“We will continue to enhance our emergency preparedness for all types of emergencies and work with the schools and local community and faith groups to ensure that all feel safe where they work, play, learn and live.

“Energy and the environment are critical to our long-term well-being. Somers will strive for ways to create a more sustainable town by partnering with our neighbors in new and innovative ways to reduce fuel consumption, recycle and encourage local sustainability.”

Cirieco said, “I am optimistic about improving economic conditions. However, I expect it will be a ‘bumpy ride.’ We must be mindful of how our revenues recover and how we set budget expense priorities. Areas such as emergency preparedness and coordinating our priorities with utility providers will be important.

“We continue to coordinate town programs with the schools, to keep our recreational facilities fully utilized so our youth stay engaged.

"We are investing in our buildings and facilities and I look forward to their completion on time and on budget.

“I support initiatives that continue the level of service we provide our residents, while balancing our desire to be one of the lowest taxed towns in Westchester.”
