Justina Romashko teaches special education/social studies at Port Chester High School. Her husband, Lloyd Miller, is a retired emergency room nurse and former trauma program manager at Stamford Hospital.
They agreed to share some stories from their marriage on video with Daily Voice.
Justina and Lloyd met as college students at SUNY Stony Brook. They'll celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary in May.
Miller, 66, said paying attention is key to a lasting marriage.
His wife cited an example of that. She said Lloyd remembered a painting of a unicorn that she casually indicated a liking for. He surprised her on their 25th anniversary by secretly returning to a Manhattan gallery to buy it for her.
"I was so stunned,'' she recalled. "How can you not love someone like that?"
As Miller arrives at Romashko's classroom, the couple always kisses. He pulls up a chair before they catch up on one another's day.
"When I'm available, I'll bring over coffee or hot chocolate or go out to dinner from here," Miller said.
