The public is welcome to attend this concert fundraiser.

"An upper-middlebrow Billy Joel crossed with a lower-highbrow Tom Lehrer with a pinch of Debussy: that's how you might place the music of the singer, song-writer, pianist and raconteur Steven Lutvak in the artistic hierarchy of contemporary songwriters," said Stephen Holden of the New York Times.

The evening will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by Lutvak performing "A Gentleman's Guide to a Gentleman's Guide." Decadent desserts will follow. Catherine Walker, an original cast member of the musical, will also make a guest appearance.

Tickets are $75, and can be purchased online here -- but check availability first, by calling 201-768-5112 or 201-801-9101. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. Temple Beth El is located at 221 Schraalenburgh Rd., in Closter.

Leslie and Stephen Jerome are sponsored this event, and the proceeds will benefit the Temple Beth El Music Fund. "Throughout the year, the Music Fund makes it possible for professional guest artists from the NY Philharmonic, the American Ballet Theatre orchestra, the world of jazz and beyond to perform during Friday Shabbat services, continuing the long tradition of superb music at the Temple," organizers note.

Lutvak supplied the music and co-wrote the lyrics with Robert Freedman for the "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," which also won the Drama League, the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk Awards.

His musical "Hannah Senesh" was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and was produced in major U.S. cities and toured throughout Canada and Israel. Lutvak also wrote the title track to the film "Mad Hot Ballroom" and the score to "Anything but Love," which starred Eartha Kitt and Andrew McCarthy.
