Eleven New Jersey Natives Selected In 2024 NFL Draft: 'I Hear That Smile!' Nearly a dozen football players from the Garden State heard their names called during the 2024 NFL Draft. Eleven players with New Jersey ties were selected in the draft from Thursday, Apr. 25 to Saturday, Apr. 27 in Detroit. The top Jersey draft pick was Max Melton, a Mays Landing native who played cornerback at Rutgers. Melton was taken in the second round with the 43rd overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals. A man and a woman were crossing Route 38 near Longwood Avenue at about 12:20 a.m. when they were hit by a dark-colored truck, police said. The pickup continued west on Route 38, they said. The pedestrians' injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said. Both were taken to an area hospital.  The pickup truck is either a Chevrolet or GMC model, according to police. Tractor-Trailer Flips On NJ Turnpike: Njsp A tractor-trailer flipped, snarling traffic on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Monday, April 29 on the Turnpike's Interchange 4 ramp to the toll plaza in Mount Laurel, according to New Jersey State Police. Based on a preliminary investigation, the Volvo tractor-trailer overturned on its side, State Police said. As the result of the crash, the driver of the Volvo sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
